So solid ah!

Hahaha... not meaning to sound like a Hokkien, I'm merely talking about solids here.. :D Have been forgetting to post up some pics which I sometimes managed to take before feeding to Ben ever since I started him on solids early September.

Items required:

Nestle rice cereal, stage 1 - if you are still breastfeeding your baby (like me - woohoo, 7 months straight on now!! :D), you must get the type which is mix with milk. There is another type which is mix with water (cos already has milk in it). Practically, Ben downs a tin per month. He is on his 2nd tin now, I'm not sure how long we should continue on with this rice cereal but I guess when Ben turns 8 months, we have to venture to the world of porridge and finger foods already...

So far, currently I feed about 3 tablespoon of rice cereal each time twice a day (I try to make it somewhere around 11am-12pm and another one around 6-7pm), mix with 2 oz of breastmilk and 3-4 teaspoon of pureed veggie (have done pumpkin, mango, carrot, sweet potato now) and in between feeding, I will give Ben few sips of water for him to swallow easier and not get thirsty or dry. On some occassions, I will also mash up bananas, mangoes, apples and papaya (of course not altogether!!) and serve it to Ben for snacks at night, about 1-2 teaspoon only.

For BM, it will depends whether this full-time mummy is lazy or not (hahaha!) I will express BM about 1-2 hours prior to feeding (if I lazy means I will thaw out my BM collections), I will also thaw out the pureed veggie and get ready the rice cereal in a plastic container. Yes, yes... I have since progressed and used better quality container & feeding spoon as shown below. It's a set of 3 containers with its own spoon. Can microwave and freeze so I find it good to use plus the price is also OK.

For pureed veggie, right now, I am trying out a new method, which is after blend, I will store the pureed veggie in one of those containers shown above, scoop out 3-4 teaspoon into a smaller containers (like those Chicken Essence bottle) and leave both small containers and the big container in the fridge for next day feeding. (I kinda hate thawing after putting in freezer - somehow dun feel comfortable when I think of putting the pureed veggie into freezer for few days), so my method now is put into smaller containers for 2-3 days stock.

Below are some shots (I've managed to take) of the food I've given to Ben so far:

Rice cereal + BM + pieces of mango which I just mash with fork instead of blend (started out abit)

Rice cereal + BM + pureed pumpkin (Ben loves this alot!)

Rice cereal + BM + pureed carrot

Picture above was taken the first time I started solids for Ben. A few teaspoon of rice cereal + BM and he loves it so much! Was grabbing on to the feeding bowl when I was done feeding him - as if he doesn't believe no more mum-mum already... :D

Other than taking the pictures of the solids given, I also make it a point to take pictures of Ben's poop. Just to check whether whatever comes out from him is normal. Which I did checked against Babycenter poop gallery - so far so good! :D

And of course, with this new adventure on the world of solid foods, I have a lot more to learn (and I have to learn up on making porridge with slow cooker already!) and I hope I'm doing the right thing and Ben is enjoying the food (as his mummy is not much of a cook actually... and totally hopeless when it comes to veggie cos mummy doesn't eat veggie... oopsie...!)

err...poop gallery?? hahaa...

haven't tried mixing other stuff with cereals yet..and i think that's a great idea. I'll try that this weekend, if im not too lazy. Actually i'm too lazy to mash anything or mix any milk in there. Just put water in to the cereal and feed haha..i'm a real lazy mom.

Mumzzy, should mix la...let your Eve taste other things but still within the comfort of her usual cereal :) Then slowly increase the tablespoon once she can take it.

For the puree vege you stored in fridge, how long have you kept it in fridge?

Hi Angeline!

Welcome to my blog! :)

I used to store at the freezer for max 2 days but decided to change strategy and now store in the fridge for max 5 days supplies.
