Annoying Things While Grocery Shopping...

We just got back few hours ago from grocery shopping at the nearby Tesco. Had to replenish some stuff so that I can prepare food for Ben's solids for the next few days.

Anyway, encountered some annoying people/stuff which made my grocery shopping not fun. Decided to write down and blog about the list of stuff and people that annoys me while I am grocery shopping.

Note: The pictures shown are taken from the Internet and are NOT the people/stuff that annoys me.

Here it goes:

People who hold/jam up the queue
This can happened for few reasons: The items they purchased does not have the price tag, bar code cannot be read or the customer insisting that the items is not the scanned price which caused the cashier to get their colleagues to go double check the price and causing the rest of the people to wait together.

People who thinks they own the aisle
Yeah... they think they own the aisle so they can freely park their shopping cart/trolley everywhere they pleases.

I sometimes had this evil thought to just dump some weird stuff into these aisle hogger'strolley and see the surprised look on their face when they realised they had weird stuff showing up from their trolley at the cashier line... :P

No more shopping carts/trolleys available
I hate this. I have been in this situations a couple of times and had to either abandon my grocery shopping or just walk around until I see an available trolley.

Open Door Policy?
I hate it when I see items on frozen food areas where its sliding doors/covers are opened.

Not only does it waste electricity, it also causes the food to thaw and melt (for ice cream).

People who looks at items right where you parked your trolley
It happened to me today a few times. Whenever I want to get an item, I'd look around and make sure there are no people around before I park my trolley right in front/behind me. Then I'd go to pick up or get the items I wanted.

But quite often, right after I parked my trolley, there'd bound to be someone who just appears out of nowhere and you will see them tip toe trying to reach for an item they wanted but couldn't reach because your trolley just happened to be blocking their path.

People who jump queue at the weighing counter
Sometimes my MIL does this. It is really annoying and rude and no matter how many times we told her about it, it just slips her mind and she just do whatever she pleases.

Of course, I get annoyed by this as well. I was happily waiting in line to get my items weighed and zappppp... someone just steps into my line and dumps their stuff on the weighing scale. My payback for what MIL do maybe??

So what about you? Anything other than the above that you get pissed as well while you are grocery shopping?

Hey Jenny! I've missed you. I'm back and will try to be a better blog follower. I really enjoyed the one about people wanting at the case after you parked your cart! It just goes to show it all works both ways. My biggest irk is the person who has the full shopping cart going through the "12 items or less" lane. But I do deserve brownie points for letting the gentleman or lady with 1 or 2 items ahead of me in the checkout lane!

Hi Polly!

Here in Malaysia, I rarely find anyone with tons of stuff who dares to queue up at the less than 10-12 items check out aisle, that's why I didn't list it down ;p

Thanks for sharing your experience! :)

I can't stand it when I have the cashier or bagger does not do their job. They want me to do it? Please, I have paid premium money for them to bag it. I even bring my own bags.

Something indirectly related: in tiny city of Singapore, it is common to walk to a supermarket to do grocery shopping. Some selfish people actually push the trolley HOME and leave the trolleys below their flats. This is super-duper inconsiderate!

I love my hometown but can't stand these people who lack social grace.

Hi Kimberly!

Hmm.. in Malaysia its quite common to bag your own purchases. And we are starting to have supermarkets or shopping centers which encourages their customers to bring their own bags (else if you use their plastic bags, you have to pay)

Hi MieVee!
Wow! This is the 1st time I'm hearing this! At least they don't bring the trolley back to their own homes right? Or do they? . . . . Thanks for visiting my blog! :)

Well, I think my shopping experience would improve immensely if everyone started calling shopping carts trolleys ;)
Hmmm . . . the thing I hate most about shopping is that inevitably I'll witness parents either yelling at their kids or letting their kids cry inconsolably without comforting them. I understand kids can be rough while shopping, but does the parents' reactions EVER make things better? :(

Hey Dionna!

Welcome back! So far, those parents I've seen just let their kids cry without doing anything (well, come to think of it, they just continue on shopping) I hope I don't end up like them! :P

Singapore flats are small, else these people would probably park the trolleys in their house instead of leaving it downstairs.

Oh yes, crying kids in the supermart give me such an earache. I'm referring to those kids who cry badly deliberately so that they can coerce their parents into buying their favourite candy.

Btw, MieVee replaces my previous long nickname 'Mummy to Baby V'. :)

Aiya Mummy to Baby V aka MieVee!

Actually both nicks also sounds nice! But used to Mummy to Baby V already ;P

Crying kids is one thing... there's another type that lies on the floor, flap (and mop) their arms and legs on the floor while crying too! :p

lol This is too funny! I hate when people look at me like I have too many kids, and that they should be more behaved than they are! I think they do very well for having to be in the store for 2 hours!

Seems as if we shop at the same kind of places as this is me, every week in Tesco, cursing the place wishing I shopped online! But I tried that once and ended up with nothing I needed!!
